A Sunset in Guangzhou

It was my birthday this past weekend, and after nearly two weeks of rain the weather finally shifted, providing perfect temperatures and amazing lighting for an evening with friends.  Here are two pictures of a rare colorful sunset in the Pearl River Delta.  The tower seen in this shot is called the Canton Tower.  It is hard to use a photo to convey how large it is.  This picture was taken from nearly 2 kilometers away, and the tower stands just under 2000 high at the top of the needle.  The observation platform is at 1,600 feet, making it the highest in the world.  Enjoy!

I feel this always looked even taller because the buildings around it are significantly smaller than you’d find in, say, NYC. Truth to this? I’ve really got to get my ass to Asia

Yeah, this certainly plays a part to the effect. The lack of vertical congestion makes for a very different perspective. In Manhattan, you tend to look up -New York feels very personal, very close, whereas the huge open sky in cities like Guangzhou and Shanghai can have an overexposed feeling.
